Chou Ying-Hsuan
在我的繪畫裡有三個重要的元素：拾獲物、塗鴉筆觸以及空間（影子），我過去的繪畫習慣在紙張或胚布、帆布上進行創作，結合了拼貼的元素，並透過切割畫布所製造的陰影與簍空的布塊，打破繪畫平面的維度。裸露出的畫布基底是繪畫語言的一部分，我發現這些「均值」的現成布料已經無法滿足我的需求，我試圖透過自行生產的手織布來解決這個問題。
There are three core elements in my oeuvre: found objects, trace (doodling strokes) and space (shadow). In my past practice, I used to work on paper, greige fabric or canvas. To break the usual flat dimension of painting, I play around with the element of collage, combining with the shadows which is created by cut canvas and the negative space of it.
To me, the exposed raw canvas is part of the painting language. I came to realize that the readymade canvases can no longer fulfill my need because of its’ “plain”. Thus, by creating my own woven textile, I hope to give my oeuvre a stronger character.
